EDAVAKA MISSION

The 17th Metropolitan of the Mar Thoma Church  Abraham Mar Thoma once told “Every Marthomite is a voluntary evangelist.” In alignment with this vision the Mar Thoma Voluntary Evangelists’ Association (MTVEA) was established in 1924. The Parish Mission (also known as Edavaka Mission) is a parish-level unit of the MTVEA and functions within each local parish of the Church.

Origin and Structure

The Edavaka Mission at the Marthoma Church of San Francisco Bay Area began functioning from the year of the church’s inception in 1991. Every church member is considered a part of the Edavaka Mission, although a group of registered active members takes part in regular activities and initiatives. The Edavaka Mission is led by the Vicar, who serves as the President, alongside elected lay members holding key leadership roles as Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Core Activities

The functions of the Edavaka Mission are based on the seven foundational activities of the Mar Thoma Voluntary Evangelists’ Association (MTVEA). These activities are designed to encourage spiritual growth, community service, and evangelism among church members.

Intercessory Prayer

Praying regularly for individuals, families, the church, the nation, and the world.

Bible Study

Studying the Word of God to grow spiritually and apply biblical principles in daily life.

Sharing Personal Testimonies (Witnessing and Sharing)

Sharing personal experiences of faith and how God is working in one’s life.

House Visits

Visiting homes of church members and others to offer prayer, encouragement, and fellowship.

Charitable Initiatives (Charity Projects)

Engaging in acts of compassion and support for the needy and marginalized in society.

Prayer Meetings

Organizing and participating in prayer gatherings to strengthen spiritual fellowship.

Monthly Fasting Prayer

The parish Edavaka Mission meets on the first Saturday of every month at 10:00 AM at the church. Under the leadership of the Vicar, these gatherings include:

  • Bible Study
  • Singing
  • Scripture Reading
  • Intercessory Prayer

On average, 15 members attend these meetings regularly. We thank our President for faithfully leading the Bible study sessions and appreciate the unwavering dedication and commitment shown.

Annual Church Convention

The Annual Church Convention is also organized by the Edavaka Mission. The spiritually uplifting messages delivered during the convention are a great blessing to all parishioners. The convention choir enhances the event with their vibrant and soulful singing.

Sannadha Suvishesha Sangham (MTVEA) Day

We joyfully observe Sannadha Suvishesha Sangham Dinam (MTVEA Day) each year. The Western Regional MTVEA coordinates a special deputation as part of this commemoration.

Western Region Tele-Prayer

Members of our parish actively participate in the Western Region Edavaka Mission TelePrayer Meetings held weekly on Wednesday evenings via Zoom. These virtual gatherings help us remain spiritually connected and engaged.

Western Region Conference – 2024

Our parish actively participated in the Annual Western Region Edavaka Mission Diocesan Conferences fostering fellowship and spiritual growth among members across the region.

Christmas Carol Service

Members of the Edavaka Mission take part in the Christmas Carol Service, adding joy and devotion to our celebrations through their active involvement.

Evangelism among Non-Christians (Gospel Work)

Reaching out with the message of the Gospel to those who do not yet know Christ. These seven pillars guide the activities of every Edavaka Mission unit across the Mar. Thoma Church worldwide.
