OUR VICAR

Rev. Jijo P. Sunny is a committed minister of the Mar Thoma Church, rooted in the fellowship of his mother parish — Salem Mar Thoma Church, Mannur (Anchal). He completed his early education in local schools and earned his degree from St. John’s College, Anchal. After completing his B.Ed., he began working as a schoolteacher but soon felt a strong calling to serve the Church in full-time ministry. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Theology from the Mar Thoma Theological Seminary in Kottayam and was ordained in 2016.

Jijo Achen was raised in a deeply faithful Mar Thoma Christian family. His father passed away when he was just 10 years old. From then on, he and his younger brother, Bijo P. Sunny, were brought up by their mother, Omana Sunny, whose unwavering Christian faith and love laid a strong foundation for their lives. Her prayers and tears before God remain the backbone of his ministry. Bijo is now settled in Muscat with his family.

He has served the Church in a variety of roles, including as Assistant Secretary of the Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam, missionary at Sakhyam Gramam in Andhra Pradesh, and Assistant Vicar at Thiruvalla SC Mar Thoma Church.

Most recently, he was Principal of two schools in Varkala under the Southern Travancore Mission: Mar Thoma English Medium School and Mar Thoma Central School, and he was the Vicar of Varkala Mar Thoma Mission Church. Through his leadership and missionary commitment, many were drawn to Christ.

Jijo Achen is blessed to be supported in ministry by his wife, Biji Kochamma, and their 5-year-old daughter, Hannah Mol. He is also a gifted singer, composer, and lyricist, using music as a meaningful part of his service and witness.
